SMARTi Report Management Streamlines Operations for Upscale Wholesale Importer

 

Marlborough, MA – January 4, 2005 - FileMark Corporation, a leading provider of document processing, archiving and records management solutions, today announced that Schwartz and Benjamin, a distributor of women’s fashion footwear, has selected FileMark SMARTi to streamline its order processing and accounts receivable operations. 

The award-winning, family-run enterprise has been wholesaling shoes for more than 80 years.  Schwartz & Benjamin currently distributes footwear imported from Italy, Spain, Brazil and China and is the licensee for Anne Klein New York, Michael Kors and Kate Spade footwear.  In addition, it recently launched its own brand of women’s footwear, daniblack, which will debut in better retail stores in spring 2005.

Until now the business had been paper driven with customer orders, invoices and credits all being filed manually.  “It was problematic to quickly find a specific invoice or order,” said Ken Smith, Credit Manager at Schwartz and Benjamin.  “Large customers had their own files, but the smaller customers frequently got filed with each other, slowing the search for a document in question.”  SMARTi eliminates the need for paper copies of these items, making them instantly available to people in accounts receivable and order processing. 

The high volume of orders Schwartz and Benjamin receives each year made it impossible to store them all in the office. Schwartz and Benjamin was forced to box up the orders and store them in a warehouse.  “The improvement in customer service is dramatic,” added Smith.  “We are pleased to have this information at our fingertips and be able to immediately answer our customers’ questions.” 

Instead of storing paper copies of computer output reports and forms in filing cabinets or on microfiche, SMARTi COLD stores them electronically and allows users to find and retrieve specific documents by performing searches or by browsing through electronic file cabinets, drawers and folders. Documents are never lost or misfiled because SMARTi automatically indexes specific information contained in reports, statements and invoices into a database.  SMARTi COLD has already reduced the number of big reports Schwartz and Benjamin distributes internally each week. “Our controller can now quickly access the summary page of a bi-weekly, 50 page report on-line,” said Smith.  “We expect the annual cost savings in paper alone to be considerable.”
